Healthy Protein Smoothie Recipes for Weight Loss

Before we get into a list of healthy protein smoothie recipes for weight loss, lets discuss some fundamentals with regards with weight loss, protein, as well as using a superfood smoothie mix.

Weight Loss Smoothies: Overview

Lets start by defining a short term accelerator vs. a long term strategy to weight loss.  A short term accelerator is something that works, it helps you lose weight.  But it’s also something that you’re unlikely to follow long-term.  They are things like “boot camps”, “detoxes”, “challenges”, etc.  Will you lose weight if you wake up at 4am and do intense training for 2 hours, every day for a month?  Of course.  You’ll probably lose a good amount of weight as long as you aren’t also guzzling down the calories.  However, what is the likelihood that you continue this practice after a month?  After a year?  Probably zero.  Which is why after your short term accelerator has ended, you’ll probably gain the weight right back.

A long term strategy is something that you enjoy, can easily implement into your daily routine, and something you will do in a year, in 5 years, etc.  You need to find the long term strategy that works for you; and that strategy differs from person to person.  However, after 20 years of practice with more than 5,000 patients, we can tell you that the most effective weight loss strategy that most people will actually follow is to replace a meal a day with a healthy weight loss smoothie.

The #1 reason why most people fail at weight loss is because they start with a short term accelerator and not a long term strategy.  This is wrong.  You must first figure out and implement your long term strategy.  Only then should you consider some short term accelerators to help accelerate weight loss.

Why Protein Smoothie Recipes for Weight Loss?

Lets all first come to the realization that the reason you are overweight is probably not because your lacking protein.  I know it’s crazy for us to say that since we sell a protein product, but it’s true.  The American diet is one of the highest protein consuming diets in the world (link), yet we are also one of the fattest (link).  So stop believing that your fat because you don’t eat enough protein!  🙂  The reality is that protein companies want you to believe this so you drink protein shakes all day long.  So what’s the truth?  Should I be trying to find protein smoothie recipes?

The truth is that protein helps keep you full longer and because of that, protein can aide in eating fewer times per day, thus losing weight by reducing your calorie intake.  But unless you are a vegan or a professional athlete, chances are that you are not deficient in protein.

Typical smoothies are comprised of fruits, vegetables, and/or nuts.  We like to take this a step further by adding superfoods (by adding a superfood smoothie mix) and a plant-based protein powder with no sweeteners or flavors.  The superfood smoothie mix will boost the health benefits and the protein powder will help keep you full longer.

What people are deficient in is fruits, vegetables, and superfoods.  Most people are not “deficient in” meat, processed foods, or sugars.  So we need to find a way to eat more fruits, vegetables, and superfoods. And we need to find a way to do this in a way that is a long term strategy that we will actually follow long term.  For most people, the answer is to replace at least one of their meals per day with a protein smoothie recipe.

Weight Loss Smoothies Should Use Foods that Target Weight Loss

Certain foods have been shown to benefit or accelerate fat loss.  Weight loss smoothies should use these foods, which is how you boost a regular smoothie into a weight loss smoothie.  For example, Green Tea has 7 human studies, 2 animal studies, and 2 academic reviews which link green tea to fat loss.  These studies have concluded things like, “These findings suggest that EGCG alone has the potential to increase fat oxidation in men and may thereby contribute to the anti-obesity effects of green tea.” (link)
