Almond Extract

What is Almond Extract?

Almond extract is typically made from alcohol, water, and almond oil.  You take peeled almonds and soak them in alcohol and water for at least a month, shaking it about every day.

Why do we use Almond Extract?

Almond extract is used for flavoring. It’s a nice way to really bring out the almond flavor in our recipes without having to over-add almonds. It is a strategy we use to help keep the amount of calories in our almond recipes low.

Can I use Almond Essential Oil Instead?

Yes. Just make sure your essential oil is intended for oral ingestion. Some essential oils are made for the skin, but not to be ingested. Essential almond oil is much stronger than almond extract, so start with only a couple drops and taste the smoothie, then add additional, as desired.
