Beets are a root vegetable.  They were popular in the middle ages for being used as a treatment for digestion and blood illness.

There is a reason why we put Beet Root Powder in both the Ancient Berry and Ancient Chocolate Superfood Mixes.  They are an awesome Superfood!!!

Beets are a great source of Folate and Manganese.  They are also a great source of Phytonutrients called Betalains – which have been shown to provide antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and detoxification support.

Beets increase Nitric Oxide Levels

The primary reason we love beets is that they increase Nitric Oxide levels.  Nitric Oxide plays a role in reducing blood pressure and boosting your stamina.  Nitric Oxide helps dilate your arteries, which helps your blood flow better.  Athletes are familiar with pre-workout drinks.  What those are meant to do is increase your Nitric Oxide levels – they just do it with unnatural ingredients that we don’t recommend.

Beet Leaves

You can use the leaves of the beet in your smoothies as well.  These leaves are known as one of the healthiest greens there is.  They have more iron than spinach and contain a long list of great nutrients.
