The Research

Urinary Tract Infections: Score 100

Summary:

Human: Cranberry is effective in preventing urinary tract infections in women who are subject to recurrent infections. Cranberry improves biomarkers of antioxidant status and inhibition of bacterial adhesion in urine. Cranberry compares favorably to the drug trimethoprim in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections without increasing the risk of antibiotic resistance, super infection or fungal infection. Cranberry induces an anti-microbial effect in the urine against klebsiella bacteria. It decreases the number of patients experiencing at least 1 symptomatic urinary tract infection a year. Cranberry has inhibitory activity on the bacterial adhesiveness of pathogenic E. Coli. It showed a clinically relevant, dose dependent and significant reduction in lower urinary tract symptoms in men. Cranberry has significant bacterial anti-adhesion activity against uropathogenic escherica coli. It has a protective effect against asymptomatic bacteriuria and symptomatic urinary tract infections in pregnancy. Cranberry significantly prevents recurrent urinary tract infections. It has anti-uropathogenic bacteria effects in the urine of healthy volunteers. Cranberry may reduce the risk of urinary tract infections by inhibiting biofilms in the bladder. There is a reduction of bacteriuria and pyuria after ingestion of cranberry juice. Regular drinking of cranberry juice reduces the recurrence of urinary tract infection. Review: Cranberry has a clinical benefit in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections. Cranberry reduces bacteriuria and pyuria.
