Lemon (or Lime) Juice

Healthy Smoothie Recipes with Lemon Juice

About Lemons

Lemon is native to Asia and were introduced to Europe prior to 100 AD and were brought to the Americas by Christopher Columbus.  Lemons are used in various areas of traditional medicine and also used for industrial purposes as a cleaning agent.

Nutrition Benefits of Lemons

Lemons are rich in Vitamin C, which is why they (and lemons) were the first well known cure for scurvy (a disease caused from a deficiency of vitamin C).

You may have seen a lot of buzz around drinking warm lemon (or lime) water every morning.  The basic premise behind this is that it is supposed to help digestion, detoxification, hydration, skin health, boosts energy, boosts mood, and promotes weight loss.  In our experience, we have seen a noticeable improvement in our health from incorporating lemon (or lime) water into our daily routine.

Lemons and Limes have very similar nutrition benefits and can be exchanged if one is preferred over the other.

Can I replace with Lemon (or Lime) Essential Oil?

Yes.  If you have a high quality lemon essential oil that is intended for oral consumption, you can replace lemon with lemon essential oil.  We recommend starting with just 1 drop, trying the smoothie, then adjusting to your liking.  Essential Oil is very strong, so you can easily over lemon a recipe if you are not careful.

Smoothie Tips

Leave the peel and use a very, very thin slice of lemon in your smoothie.  Lemons are extremely powerful in terms of flavor, so you are better starting off small and then adding more to your liking.

You can replace lemon with lime if you prefer.
