Pear (fresh, cored)

Healthy Smoothie Recipes with Pears

About Pears

Pears have been cultivated for thousands of years and are known to have over 3,000 different varieties.  China is the largest producer of pears by far.  A distant second place is the United States and others.

Nutrition Benefits of Pears

Pears contain a wide range of phytonutrient antioxidants.  The skin of the pear is 3-4x more dense with nutrients than the actual meat of the fruit.

There have been some studies linking pears to anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, type 2 diabetes benefits (via improving insulin sensitivity), and heart disease benefits.  It is also a fruit that is very easy to digest and a low allergy food – which is why it’s often one of the first fruits fed to babies.

Smoothie Tips

Don’t peel your pears when making a smoothie.  The skins are dense with antioxidants.

Use whatever type of pear you like most.  We are not aware of any research showing that one variety has more nutritional benefits than another variety.
