About Quinoa Flour
Quinoa is a gluten free grain crop known for it’s edible seeds. It originated in South America and has been consumed for over 3,000 years. The Incas considered it a sacred crop and referred to it as the “mother of all grains”. It is grown in high altitudes between 8,200 ft – 13,000 ft. There are parts of Colorado where Quinoa is cultivated, although most Quinoa comes from South America (Peru and Boliva in particular).
Quinoa flour is just the Quinoa seeds milled into a flour.
We use Quinoa Flour as an ingredient in Smoothie Protein.
Nutrition Benefits of Quinoa Flour
Quinoa is considered a superfood due to its antioxidant properties. It is also high in protein and contains all essential essential amino acids (referred to as being a “complete protein” or having a “complete amino acid profile).
Some research has also linked Quinoa to the following potential benefits: Breast cancer, diabetes / insulin resistance, anti-inflammation, and headaches.
