Also called “Lingzhi Mushroom”, Rishi is native to China and has been used in Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years.  This makes Reishi Mushroom one of the oldest mushrooms known to have been used medicinally.  It was known in Ancient Chinese medicine as the “mushroom of immortality; elixir of life”.

Summary:

Human: Reishi improves the condition of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy/radiotherapy. Animal: It ameliorates the colon precancerous lesions induced by AOM and the small intestinal injury caused by 5-FU. It inhibits the development of lung tumors. It could inhibit cancer cell survival and induce apoptosis, also there were fewer and smaller colonies than the untreated cells. Reishi has anti-tumor effects in inflammatory breast cancer. Reishi extracts inhibit leukemia cells and promote an immune response. In Vitro: Reishi in combination with other ingredients is safe and therapeutic against myelogenous leukemia. It is cytotoxic to both drug sensitive and drug resistant small cell lung carcinoma cells and can reverse resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs. It contains polysaccharides, which reverse multidrug resistance in leukemic cell lines. It induced programmed cell death in NB4 human leukemia cells. Medical mushrooms and phytochemicals represent useful approaches to target tissue invasion and metastasis as well as other hallmark areas of cancer. It has anti-cancer activity in human urothelial cells. Reishi induces apoptosis in metastatic lung tumor cells. It inhibits growth of human bladder cancer cells. Reishi causes apoptosis in leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma cell lines. It protects against radiation and chemotherapy associated toxicity.
